There are actually lots of challenges still to open source AI. It starts with the resources required. It’s still the case that if you want to build, especially at the leading edge of model capability, it takes a lot of resources. It takes a lot of money that is excluding a lot of people, especially researchers that need to be part of this.
Things have changed a lot too, in terms of building applications and it changes all the time, right? Rag patterns are the thing today, but there are a million different varieties of how to do that. Things that you optimize for one model family are not portable to another, and so on. And then there are safety and trust concerns.
A lot of really legitimate, serious concerns that need to be addressed with practical solutions. And some hyperbole too, of course, which we need to try to distinguish between. And then in terms of legal and regulatory environment, there are also challenges in terms of copyrights, challenges in terms of new regulation that threaten to restrict what you all do.
